Post-16 Alternative Provision

Who this provision is for?

Our Post-16 provision is designed for young people aged 16–25 who may be NEET (or at risk of becoming NEET) and need a more personalised, supportive pathway.

It is particularly suited to learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs, including those experiencing anxiety, low attendance, reduced engagement or difficulty coping in mainstream settings.

We offer a structured stepping stone for young people working towards college, training, volunteering, or employment, who benefit from small groups, consistent staffing, and clear routines.

Our programmes are supportive, flexible and confidence-building, with a practical approach rather than a classroom-heavy one.

What we offer at Post-16

Our Post-16 programmes focus on:

  • Employability and work-readiness skills

  • Personal and Social Development (PSD)

  • Functional English and Maths (where appropriate)

  • Confidence, communication and routine

  • Emotional regulation and wellbeing support

  • Introductory animal care short courses, designed to support engagement and progression

Learning is delivered through practical, real-world activities, supported discussion and structured sessions that help young people develop skills for adulthood. Our animal care short courses will be linked to visits and progression opportunities at Kirklees College Animal Care Centre, supporting learners to explore vocational interests and prepare for further training.

Study programme approach

Part-time, flexible timetables allow us to deliver sessions in small groups with consistent staff and clear routines. We create individual learning and support plans tailored to each young person, helping them prepare for further education, training or apprenticeships, supported employment, or adult provision where appropriate. Participation in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or structured physical activity is optional and never compulsory; where included, it is used as a supportive tool to aid engagement, regulation and confidence alongside learning.

Outcomes & progression

 We focus on:

  • Re-engagement with learning through structure, wellbeing and consistent support

  • Improved attendance, punctuality and routine

  • Accredited learning and skills development where appropriate

  • Positive progression outcomes into education, training, employment or supported pathways

Referrals & commissioning

Referrals are accepted from: Local Authority teams, colleges and training providers, Early Support services, and parents/carers (with professional involvement), for young people who may benefit from Post-16 re-engagement, employability and wellbeing support.
